Welcome to the world of undergraduate research, where pursuit is highly regarded!

Pursuing career opportunities, pursuing scholarly knowledge, and pursuing answers to interesting questions—that’s what undergraduates do when they engage in research and creative achievement.

In the process, they find out if their chosen career path is one they enjoy. They support their faculty mentors’ research, and they come up with fresh projects of their own. The benefits of engaging in undergraduate research are numerous, and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, offers some of the most exciting research experiences in the nation.

The University of Tennessee is classified by the Carnegie Commission as a research university with “very high research activity.” As a result, students have access to cutting-edge technologies and well-funded laboratories and outreach opportunities for undergraduate research students. Every year, more than 1,000 undergrads engage in research and creative achievement via summer internships, coursework, design studios, faculty projects, and independent studies.
