EuroScholars

The University of Tennessee and the EuroScholars program to offer students the opportunity to conduct research abroad at one of 5 top European research universities.

About the program

The program is especially designed for students who are interested in discovering their potential for a research career. EuroScholars offers unique opportunities to spend a semester as a student researcher at one of the top European research institutions. Supervision will be provided by academic staff, working on and/or responsible for the Research Project. The curriculum will consist of the Research Project (main element), literature review (independent study), elective (if applicable), and a language and culture course at the host university. Each semester a central European Midstay Program (2-3 days) is organized for all students.

For whom?

EuroScholars is looking for outstanding and motivated undergraduate students. A strong interest in an academic/research career and a GPA of 3.4 or higher are also required. Students do not need to have research experience, however, science students should have ample academic experience in a laboratory setting.

The Research Project

The main element of the EuroScholars program is the Research Project. When applying to the EuroScholars program, you will select a specific research project from the EuroScholars Research Project Database. Almost all projects are ongoing research projects at the host institution, so as a EuroScholar, you will be an active contributor to an already existing research team. Over 100 Research Projects at the 5 partner universities are available, in many fields of study. Projects are available in Arts and Humanities, Performing Arts, Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Astronomy, Computer Science, Medicine, Biomedical Sciences, Law, Economics, Management, Politics and Social Studies. The other part of the curriculum is built around the Research Project in dialogue with the supervising professor. In some cases, students may also propose their own research topic.

Participating Universities

Cost

The cost of the program for the Spring or Fall semester is about €9.975/$13,500 per semester, and includes tuition, bench fee and cost of accommodation for the duration of the research period (one semester). The tuition fee also includes: a EuroScholars Midstay Program, a local orientation program, student ID-card, use of student facilities at the university (such as access to internet and access to libraries), and research facilities.

Most students utilize any federal and state financial aid they currently receive to apply to EuroScholars program costs. Home university scholarships may also be eligible. Students should speak with their study abroad and financial aid offices on campus to verify home university policies and procedures.
