EURēCA Held Virtually in 2020

The 24th Annual Exhibition of Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement (EURēCA) was held in a virtual format on Monday, April 13th, 2020. EURēCA is an annual event held by the Office of Undergraduate Research that showcases research and creative activities by currently enrolled undergraduate students in collaboration with a University of Tennessee, Knoxville or UTIA faculty mentor. Entries can be individual or group projects and are judged by a panel of UT faculty members and industry partners.

The event is normally a week-long poster symposium that takes place in John C. Hodges Library. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s event pivoted to an online model comprised of a Virtual Kickoff, followed by a series of Zoom conferences where students presented their posters to judges within their college. While not all 1,000 students originally scheduled to present could move online, a total of 440 students presented their research to 159 judges from all academic colleges. All presenters’ posters can be viewed online at symposium.foragerone.com.

A Virtual Awards Ceremony was held via Zoom Webinar on Friday, April 17th. Over 200 faculty, students, and their families attended the event. Of the 88 students who won awards in their individual colleges, 28 students went on to receive Gold, Silver, and Bronze overall awards from the Office of Undergraduate Research. All award winners can be viewed on the EURēCA website.

The Office of Undergraduate Research would like to thank all of the students, judges, and faculty mentors for their tremendous effort in making this year’s event happen.
