Fall Spring Summer
Semester Research Assistants Program
Faculty members apply for funding for undergraduate research assistants during the fall and spring semesters.
Discovery LLC
Students can join our Living Learning Community (LLC) and live with like-minded undergraduate researchers.
Federal Work Study Assistantships
Students may use their federal work-study funds for positions as undergraduate research assistants for faculty at UT.
Summer Research Internship Program
Students apply for funding to get paid to be a summer undergraduate research assistant with a UT faculty member.
   
SURGE Program
Paid 8-week research experience designed to engage UT students in faculty mentored research.
   
SMaRT Internship Program
Paid 10-week internship with a UT faculty member on ORNL-related research (at UT or Oak Ridge National Lab or both)
   
Summer Research Scholars Program
All students conducting research at UT in the summer may sign up to participate in research-related events such as professional development and social activities and a poster symposium.
   
Additional Summer Research Programs at UT
Some departments run their own paid summer research opportunities for undergraduates.
   

Fall Spring Summer
EuroScholars
Join an ongoing research project at one of 5 top research institutions in Europe for the fall or spring semester.
Oak Ridge National Lab Internships (SULI, HERE)
Paid summer and semester internships in STEM fields (some non-STEM available, such as Communications).
UT Graduate School of Medicine

Opportunities for bench research in basic/translational labs as well as clinical research at UT Medical Center.  Applications submitted through the UTMC web portal.

The Office of Undergraduate Research has put together a number of resources to help you develop research skills from the comfort of your home.

National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates (NSF REUs)
Paid summer research experience at various universities and institutions around the country in STEM fields.
Summer International Research Opportunities Program (IROP)
Join an ongoing research project in one of 9 different countries for 8 weeks during the summer.
Research in Arts
Two-semester initiative involving a summer study abroad in Paris, followed by the completion of a research-based art project during the fall.
