You may also search and apply for a research assistant position on Handshake. After logging in to Handshake (you can set up an account for free) search under the keyword “Undergraduate Research Assistant.” For URF funded positions, go to “Employers” (left side of screen) and search “University of Tennessee, Office of Undergraduate Research & Fellowships.” You should see “Jobs at University of Tennessee, Office of Undergraduate Research & Fellowships” on the right side of the screen. Check back frequently for updated opportunities.


Fall Spring Summer
Faculty Research Assistants Funding (FRAF)
Search and apply for a FRAF funded research assistant position on Handshake. Set up a free account and visit our employer page at “University of Tennessee, Office of Undergraduate Research & Fellowships.”
Advanced Undergraduate Research Activity (AURA)
Undergraduate students apply for funding to support their own research with the help of a UT faculty mentor.
Departmental Research Assistants (DRA)
Search and apply for a DRA funded research assistant position on Handshake. Set up a free account and visit our employer page at “University of Tennessee, Office of Undergraduate Research & Fellowships.”
 
SMaRT Internship Program
Paid 10-week internship with a UT faculty member on ORNL-related research (at UT or Oak Ridge National Lab or both)
Summer Research Scholars Program
UT students conducting research during the summer are eligible to participate research-related activities and social events through Summer Research Scholars.
   
Federal Work Study Assistantships
Students may use their federal work-study funds for positions as undergraduate research assistants for faculty at UT.

Fall Spring Summer
Oak Ridge National Lab Internships (SULI, HERE)
Paid summer and semester internships in STEM fields (some non-STEM available, such as Communications).
UTGSM Advancing Access to Careers in Medicine Scholars Program (UTGSM AACMSP)
NEW summer research program designed to improve knowledge of and access to careers in medicine and/or translational sciences among UT students with outstanding commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
   
Additional Opportunities at the UT Graduate School of Medicine
Opportunities for bench research in basic/translational labs as well as clinical research at UT Medical Center.  Applications submitted through the UTMC web portal.
National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates (NSF REUs)
Paid summer research experience at various universities and institutions around the country in STEM fields.
